Dundee Area Squad

This squad provides an appropriate stepping stone into the Midlands District Impact Squad. The squad is reselected annually in August and entry times are based on the Scottish National Age Group Qualifying times. The squad is aimed at swimmers 12 years and above.

Swimmers meet once per month from September through to June for a 2-hour pool session and an hours land or educational session.

District Regional Programme

As part of the recognition of the need to work with a greater number of swimmers and Coaches Scottish swimming has engaged in the development of the District regional program. This programme is seen as an opportunity to assist clubs and coaches to advance the process of developing the characteristics of the initial stages of performance development in swimmers.

Using 16 balanced regional squads throughout the country, and mentor coaches following a nationally directed program, swimmers and coaches will be given guidance and direction on how to improve the standard of performance within their program setting. The DRP will have three delivery days for each squad.

Some of the main concepts of the DRP is to ensure:

  • A communication flow between coaches
  • Opportunities for coaches from all levels to have contact with mentor coaches
  • A chance for coaches to learn/experience new skills and understand how to move their coaching process forward

Additional benefits for coach and swimmer are:

  • Two swimmers nominated in each area by Head Coach for National stroke camp, providing a home Coach attends all 3 days
  • DVD of the land work
  • Each DRP Day worth 3 Coach Licence Points
Holiday Provision

During the various school holidays come and try session of various Aquatic Activities, such as Water Polo, Diving etc are run at the Olympia. At the end of these sessions information on clubs or classes are given out so that children may continue with an activity that they have enjoyed.

RLSS Rookie Lifesaving Courses are run throughout the Summer and October Holidays.

Coach/Teacher Education

The Midlands District Education Committee produces an Annual Education programme for all teachers and coaches in conjunction with Tayside Sports Development Group.

This programme delivers a comprehensive range of education seminars and National Governing Body Courses both locally and throughout Tayside.

National Governing Body courses that are run throughout Tayside annually are ASA Assistant Teachers and ASA Teachers.

Education seminars covering topics such as strokes, starts and turns, Disability awareness, dealing with fear in adults and pre-school activities are run at various times throughout the year.
